Khurda: As electoral battle keeps Odisha on fire ahead of the remaining three rounds of elections, incidents of pre-poll violence have begun to hit the State politics.
Just hours after pre-poll violence erupted in Bolangir, a BJP Mandal president was allegedly shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Khurda.
According to sources, two bike-borne miscrents shot and killed BJP’s Mandal president Manguli Jena near party’s Nabina Bag office in Khurda.
Even as the exact circumstances and reason behind the firing is yet to be ascertained, police have launched a probe into the incident. It is suspected that it was fallout of political rivalry. Other details are awaited.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has strongly condemned the incident and informed about the matter to the State Police DG.
On the development, Pradhan tweeted, “There is no place for violence in democracy as it is battle of ballots, not bullets. I urge party leaders and workers to have faith in democracy and keep peace at this time,” Pradhan tweeted.
