Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Unveiled: Includes new S Pen and Fortnite Exclusive
It’s been a subject of numerous leaks and rumors, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is finally official as Samsung raised the curtains off their new power user’s smartphone at their Unpacked event.
At first glance, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 looks like an incremental update over the Galaxy Note 8 but the South Korean giant has indeed baked in some meaningful updates.Image Credit: Cnet
However, let’s get the similarities out of the way, in terms of size the Galaxy Note 9 has an almost identical footprint to its predecessor and has a 6.4-inch “notch less” display. They’ve also managed to bump up the battery size 20% with the device packing a 4,000mAh battery.
At 6.4 inches the Super AMOLED display is the biggest we’ve ever seen on a Samsung smartphone although it shares the 1440x2960px resolution of the last years Galaxy Note 8. This means it’s actually 5ppi less, however that’s not going to be a big differentiator. It’s also HDR10 compliant and comes with an always on display.Image Credit: Cnet
Other external hardware sees the fingerprint scanner moved to an aesthetically correct position under the dual cameras. Note that there’s no under display fingerprint scanner which was correctly leaked by the one of the comparison site Tiger Mobiles in June.
Speaking of the dual camera setup the Galaxy Note 9 shares the same setup as the Galaxy S9+. There is a 12MP dual-aperture f/1.5-2.4 wide primary sensor and a 12MP f/2.4 telephoto cameras – both with optical stabilization and both featuring what Samsung dubs their Intelligent Camera, which will detect scenes, tweak colors and contrast. It also detects flaws such as a smudgy lens or if someone has closed their eyes in a photo. The front-facing sensor has remained the same 8MP f/1.7 snapper.Image Credit: Cnet
The Galaxy Note 9 comes with an Exynos 9810 Octa SoC and the sane stereo speakers that are present on Galaxy S9 and S9+. The Galaxy Note 9 is also IP68 rated even though it comes with an S Pen.
Talking about the new S Pen, as leaked earlier it does feature Bluetooth connectivity and it can be used as a remote for operating the camera or managing power point presentation during any meeting. It has its own battery that lasts 30 minutes and recharges in just 40 seconds when it is housed in the phone.Image Credit: Cnet
Another important update can be seen in DeX. The all-new DeX allows you to connect to external hardware like a monitor without a DeX Dock and a physical keyboard and mouse. All it needs to get into the DeX mode is a single USB-C to HDMI cable.
The base model Galaxy Note 9 comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage along with a microSD card slot. The top of the line model packs a mammoth 512GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.
