Nagpur receives Best Innovative Award for GPS smart watches to sanitation workers
What could be termed as great achievement for Nagpurians as Central Government has adjudged Nagpur as Best City in innovation and Best Practices in the country under Swachhata Survekshan Abhiyan- 2018. Union Minister of State for Housing Hardeep Singh Puri has announced the result of Swachhata Survekshan Results at New Delhi on Wednesday. Maharashtra has been second in the country in the category of best performing states. The overall Swachhata Ranking of Nagpur could not be known till late night.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has provided GPS based smart wrist watches to sanitation workers to keep a tab on their movement. There were lots of complaint regarding irregular attendance of sanitary workers on their work. Rattled by regular complaints, then Municipal Commissioner Ashwin Mudgal, Mayor Nanda Jichkar and Deputy Commissioner Jayant Dandegaokar had decided to provide smart watches to them. The project was implemented on pilot basis in the city and Swachh Survekshan Team appreciated the innovative efforts made by the NMC to instill discipline among sanitary workers.
Mayor Nanda Jichkar appreciated administration for this splendid job and congratulated entire team for this effort. She said, the innovative idea has been appreciated by the Central Government. Very soon, the local body will provide smart watches to all the sanitation workers and to other workers also. This has increased the efficiency of the workers and now, they are very prompt in their duty. Ruling Party leader Sandip Joshi said, “This is a result of joint efforts taken by office bearers, administration
and staff. This is just a beginning we have to achieve a lot in near future.”
Ashwin Mudgal, the then Municipal Commissioner was very happy with the appreciation by the Central Government. He said, tireless efforts were taken by all the sanitary workers, other officials and non-officials resulted in an achievement for the city at national level. If every stakeholder come together to do something positive then success is guaranteed. He also extended special thanks to people of Nagpur for their active support in cleanliness.
Now, civic body will provide smart watches to all 8,000 sanitation workers in the city. Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) - a public sector undertaking company has specially designed these watches for NMC.
Jayant Dandegaokar, Deputy Commissioner said, this has improved the attendance of the sanitation workers. Very soon, we will attach it with their salary. As soon as they arrive in their respective area, the smart watch will register their attendance. The smart watches also recognize the face of the employee and this will rule out impersonation on their duty. The pulse rate is also registered by the smart watch. He expressed gratitude towards the citizens, office bearers and higher officials of NMC for this achievement and to Abhay Khare of ITI Bangalore for this watch. This watch has multi dimensional GPS tracking system along with camera, SoS features and restricted calling facility to fence and track the work location and employees performance along with photo proof and face. The interesting feature is fall alert, ideal time alert, watch removal alert. Health Officer Dr. Pradeep Dasarwar has also congratulated the sanitation workers and citizens for this achievement.
NMC to provide watches to doctors
NMC is also considering a proposal to provide smart watches to doctors of civic hospitals and dispensaries. Presently, duty of the doctors is between 8 am to 4 pm but doctors reach their dispensaries at around 9 am and leave the dispensary by 1 or 2 pm. There are several complaints about absenteeism of doctors but corporation has failed to control their movement. Now, NMC will provide them the watches to keep a close tab on their attendance.
