Sensex down by 241 pts
Mumbai, May 16 (UNI) The benchmark index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) tumbled down by 241 points to 35,302.89 on Wednesday following the decline on Wall Street and heavy selling across the board.
The election result of Karnataka Assembly also impacted the equity market.
The dramatic outcome of Karnataka Elections in which Modi-led BJP won the maximum seats beating Rahul Gandhi-led INC and H D Deve Gowda-led JD(S) but failed to clinch the majority.
The Nifty of National Stocks Exchange (NSE) too dropped by 80.75 points to 10,721.15.
The sensex registered intra day high and low at 35,452.35 and 35,241.63 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded intra day high and low at 10,764.80 and 10,699.70 respectively.
The indices like Materials, Energy, Industrials, Telecom and Auto dragged the market, in opening trade.
The losers were ICICI Bank by 2.94 pc to Rs 298.95, HeroMotor Corp by 2.60 pc to Rs 3558.25, SBIN by 2.43 pc to Rs 242.55, Coal India by 2.05 pc to Rs 258.60 and Reliance Industries by 1.64 pc to Rs 963.25.
The gainers were Wipro by 1.15 pc to Rs 273.50, Tata Motors DVR by 0.47 pc to Rs 181.95, TCS by 0.31 pc to Rs 3493.30 and Hind Unilever by 0.30 pc to Rs 1520.60.
